Best Pizza in Harrison Township

Harrison Township has four real answers to the pizza question, and they are four different pizzas. There is the old Detroit square baked on Jefferson Ave since 1953, a carryout pie whose crust people describe before they describe the toppings, a New York style thin crust from a five day cold ferment, and a party store square slice you eat in the parking lot on the way to Metro Beach.    Luigi's opened as a pizzeria in 1953 and the square pie is still the reason the name shows up next to Jet's and Shield's when people list who does Detroit style. A regular of 40 years says the pizza, the ribs and the sauce have not changed, and a neighbor's entire recommendation reads: great pizza. The catch is that this is a dinner house now, open from 4 pm with a bar, perch stacks and lamb chops, and the recent complaints are about the bill, not the pie: a birthday dinner for two over $200, a $25 shrimp salad with three shrimp.

   Dinner only, closed Monday and Tuesday, and book online rather than by phone, since one diner's phone reservation lost out to an online one.

   Brioni's is the pizza people in Harrison Township order on a Friday without thinking about it. The crust is the thing: reviewers say the dough has flavor on its own so nobody asks for butter on the edge, the pepperoni is not swimming in grease, and, in one regular's words, the crust is just different from other places. The salads and the in-house sub bread get almost as much love, and one family had them cater a 60 person backyard wedding. Orders are by phone or at the counter, and the parking lot off Jefferson is tight, so send one person in.

   Closed Mondays, phone or walk-in orders only, and one December night nobody picked up the phone.

   Crust Punk is the loud new kid across from Hungry Howie's, and the thin, crisp, slightly charred crust from a five day cold ferment is what people drive in for. The named pies do the work: the Sailor Jerry, the Arthur Avenue for anyone homesick for New York, the Rivington with peach, prosciutto and goat cheese. Owner Meghesh works the line and hands out tiramisu samples. Know the two recurring knocks before you go: a cheese pizza runs about $22 after tax, and several people found the sauce too light for their taste.

   Pricey for the size, sauce runs light, the $5 side of ranch is small, and phone pickup orders have run 20 minutes past the quoted time.

   BuscemisSquare slices with the beer run

   Buscemis on S River Rd is a party store with a pizza counter, and that is the pitch: grab two square slices and a sub, a case of beer and lottery tickets on the way to Metro Beach or the ramp. Nash and Nick behind the counter know regulars by name and reviewers going back years say the pie is at its best when Nash makes it himself. It is not at its best every time. One July 2026 visitor got a floppy, undercooked square from the warmer, and party store prices apply to everything else in the basket.

   Ask for a fresh slice from the oven rather than the warmer, and the counter is hit or miss when Nash is not the one making the pizza.
